چکیده

Starting in the 1960s, a number of academic works have focused in serial and distributed multi-echelon structures and in both deterministic and stochastic environments. Clark and Scarf (1960, 1962) developed a seminal work in which they presented optimal policies for a serial multi-echelon system. Schwartz (1973) studied a deterministic model having one warehouse and N retailers and showed that optimal policies can be very difficult to find. The concept of linked stationary policies was presented by Schwartz (1973) and Love (1972). Many heuristics have been developed to extend the classical EOQ (Economic Order Quantity) model to multi-echelon systems. A disadvantage is that most of them lack of verifiable lower bounds (Muckstad and Roundy, 1987) as in the case of Blackburn and Millen (1982), Williams (1981), Crowston and Wagner (1973), Crowston. Wagner and Henshaw (1972), Crowston, Wagner ABSTRACT

An Iterative Heuristic Optimization Model for Multi-Echelon (R, Q) Inventory Systems

Large multi-echelon inventory systems usually consist of hundreds of thousands of stock keep units (SKU). Calculating inventory policies for each product is a computational burden that necessitates the need for more efficient policy setting techniques that reduce computational time and increases managerial convenience. The main objective of our research is to investigate the effect of segmentat...

Multi-Echelon Production/Inventory Systems: Optimal Policies, Heuristics, and Algorithms

The theory on multi-echelon production/inventory systems is a core theory within supply chain management. It provides useful insights for design of supply chains and may be used for tactical and operational planning decisions. The multi-echelon theory started with the seminal paper of Clark and Scarf in 1960. In this tutorial, we describe for which systems optimal policies are known, which key ...

A Coordination Mechanism with Fair Cost Allocation for Divergent Multi-Echelon Inventory Systems

This paper is concerned with the coordination of inventory control in divergent multiechelon inventory systems under periodic review and decentralized control. All the installations track echelon inventories. Under decentralized control the installations will decide upon replenishment policies that minimize their individual inventory costs. In general these policies do not coincide with the opt...

A multi-item multi-echelon inventory system with quantity-based order consolidation

The efficient management of a distribution system requires coordination between transportation planning and inventory control. Small and frequent shipments can reduce inventory levels while maintaining high customer service levels, but they increase unit transportation costs due to inappropriate utilization of the vehicles and more handling costs. On the other hand shipment consolidation polici...

Bi-product inventory planning in a three-echelon supply chain with backordering, Poisson demand, and limited warehouse space

In this paper, we apply continuous review (S-1, S) policy for inventory control in a three-echelon supply chain (SC) including r identical retailers, a central warehouse with limited storage space, and two independent manufacturing plants which offer two kinds of product to the customer. The warehouse of the model follows (M/M/1) queue model where customer demands follow a Poisson probabilit...
